Outdoor Classroom and Water Catchment System
The fifth teachers at Hale Kula have been working collaboratively with community agencies, Island Palm and Synergy, to provide sustainability education and resources to the fifth grade classes. Island Palm builds the homes our students live in. We have engaged in guided tours with Island Palm to learn about building sustainable, energy saving homes. They have also provided classroom education on water conservation. Last year, they proposed to build a rainwater catchment system for our school garden. The project grew to include an outdoor classroom. Construction was completed in October of 2011. We look forward to continuing our collaborative partnership focused on sustainability and conservation education and practices.
